Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is on my list of idols. He saw the world in a new perspective and influenced millions of people, such as Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. He was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India, and was killed on January 30, 1948. Gandhi was married to Kasturbai Makanji at the age of thirteen and had two children. He was actually very shy and even canceled a case because of it, but when he was older he eventually overcame it. He went to Law school in London and became a Lawyer, and then formed a Law Office in South Africa. He is known for leading the 200mile Salt March to protest against Britain. The idea for it was that the people of India would gather their own salt instead of buying it from the British. Gandhis longest fasting was 21 days. This fasting was a protest for independence in India and for the war between Muslims and Hindus to cease. The independence did finally come, in 1947, a year before he was assassinated. Gandhi is a huge inspiration and did what he believed in, and overcame his temptations. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." -Gandhi
